It’s Just Good Government?

September 18, 2011

Republican candidate for District 9 County Legislator Sue Konig has made a point of getting her name out there.  Her strategies include appearing with every Republican elected official available and plastering the landscape of the village she lives in with signs announcing her candidacy.  Not only are her signs on public property, violating local codes, but candidate Konig has chosen to ignore regulations stating that signs in the Town of Cortlandt (incl. Croton) cannot be put up before 30 days prior to an election.  Perhaps not only is it within your right to remove any Konig sign you see on public spaces for the next few weeks, but your civic duty!

I believe it would be more effective to simply make friends, neighbors and voters aware of Ms. Konig’s abysmal record as a Croton Trustee and the racist undertones of her past and present election materials (i.e., low income housing flyer distributed to North Highland residents, picture of slums on 2009 Schmidt election mailer, fear mongoring re. Croton turning into Ossining, and her current platform loaded with code words like “fighting big developers” which really means “defying HUD settlement”).

Another thing voters must know is that she has absolutely no credentials to serve on the Westchester County Planning Board, but was simply appointed by Astorino because she worked for him at Catholic Radio and will blindly support his agenda. How does a self proclaimed “humorist” qualify as a member of the County Planning Board let alone a County Legislator?

Let’s not forget Mr. Piolo who is running as a Democrat for Town Justice. His signs have been out for months. I suspect WatchCroton is just as one-sided as Mr. Weale’s old website was. I am certainly no fan of Konig, but let’s include ALL candidates in this complaint.

Mrs. Jones, you are right on. Those signs have been up for months and do not speak well of a candidate running for a justice seat. At some point they become just another form of visual pollution. I’m glad the code is in place, even though it isn’t always adhered to.

I agree that it would be nice if this blog would refrain from the often one sided politics.
