Perez-A-Palooza Raises Over $10K!

From CET Principal Kelly Maloney:

Thank you to all of you who contributed in some way towards the Perez-a-Palooza event that took place last night at the high school! We had quite an array of performers that included lunch monitors, teacher aides, teachers, administrators, and even one of our custodians! As one parent mentioned to me today, it was evident that there is unity in our community!

Thank you to our CET PTA and SEPTA for organizing a bake sale and contributing all monies towards the Fran Perez Memorial Scholarship. It was an unbelievable evening that brought our school community together! Mrs. Marlena Roberts is to be commended for coming up with this brilliant idea of staging a “palooza” event in memory of Fran Perez. The money raised will be used to award scholarships for CET children to attend afterschool programs as well as to pay for an aide to support students with special needs who attend an afterschool class. At this time, the total money raised is just over $10,000.

The enthusiasm from this event still remained today with children, staff, and parents talking about the show and their favorite performances. The children in Mrs. Shapiro’s class were begging to learn the Jackson 5 and Zumba routines, and they did! They even had the chance to demonstrate their dance moves to me and Mrs. Argenio!

For those of you who were not able to attend or just want to watch it again, you can purchase the DVD. Order forms were sent home and are available on our school website.

Perez-a-Palooza DVD orders are due in by February 10. If you need an order form, they are available at the CET Welcome Center or on the CET website (cet.croton-harmonschools.org).

Trouble For Treasures And Tales

Word is getting around that Treasures and Tales, Croton’s go-to place for unique gifts and host to countless community events, is in danger of losing its iconic building on Grand Street. The building has sold and owner Liz Jacobson has been ordered to vacate by February 29th.

Treasures and Tales has transformed the retail landscape of Croton’s upper village and residents will suffer a loss of a great community resource. We here at WatchCroton can think of a perfect alternative site for T&T, if only the owners of a large vacant space at the corner of Old Post and Grand hadn’t decided to RAISE the rent by a few thousand dollars recently.

Perhaps its time to consider implementing vacancy taxes on property owners that allow their properties to lie fallow. Several areas of the Harmon business district are guilty of this as well.

Holy Name of Mary Montessori Open House

Classroom Visitations next week – Wednesday February 1st and Thursday

Donate Food, Pick Up Books!

During February, the Croton Free Library is collecting food for the Cortlandt Emergency Food Bank, the Croton-based food pantry that distributes over 40,000 pounds of food a year to families throughout the Town of Cortlandt.

Food items most in need are listed below, but any and all non-perishable donations are welcome. Drop them off at the library during regular business hours.

The Food Bank needs canned soup, cereal, oatmeal, rice, pasta, spaghetti sauce, canned vegetables, canned fruit, macaroni and cheese, canned beans, tuna fish, peanut butter and jelly, mayonaise and any nutritious food that kids love!
