Phase I of 9/11 Memorial to be Dedicated Sept. 11th at Croton Landing

The Task Force of the Buchanan*Cortlandt*Croton-on-Hudson (BCC) 9/11 Remembrance Memorial will unveil Phase I of the tri-municipal Memorial at Croton Landing in a solemn dedication ceremony on Tuesday, September 11th, at 3 p.m.

Participants made up of citizen volunteers from the Task Force, supporters from the community and construction industry,  first and second responders, family members of 9/11 victims,  and public officials will gather in the Croton Landing parking area of the River Walk at 2:30 p.m. Led by a color guard from the local volunteer fire departments they will walk in procession along the half-mile pathway north to the site on the Hudson River.  A van from the Village of Croton will be in the parking area to transport those who need a ride to the site.

Janet Mainiero of Croton, project director of the BCC 9/11 Remembrance Memorial, will open the ceremony with a remembrance for the family members and special thanks to all those who have contributed their time and talents to the all-volunteer, not-for-profit project.  She will recognize the 16 active members of the Task Force from Cortlandt, Croton and Buchanan who have been dedicated in their efforts during the past two years;  the construction team of seven companies who offered their vigorous work at the site as “in-kind” donations during the past two months;  a support team of seven local businesses and first responders;  and the Supervisor, Mayors and staff from the Town of Cortlandt, and Villages of Croton & Buchanan.

The unique Memorial is entitled  Reaching Through The Shadow.  A detailed description and rendering art will be forwarded upon request in advance or available on Sept. 11th.
