Croton Youth Lacrosse Fall Season Registration-Open Now!

August 21, 2014

Welcome to the Croton Youth Lacrosse 2014 Fall Season!

Who can play and what’s the time commitment?

Croton Youth Lacrosse is open to boys 3rd through 6th grades and girls, 3rd through 7th grades.  Boys will be divided into two teams, 3/4 and 5/6; girls will be divided into two teams, 3/4 and 5/6/7.  Practices and Home games will be at CET Upper, starting Monday September 10th (girls) and Tuesday, September 9th (boys) and running through November 11th, weather and light permitting.  For the most part, practices will be Monday (girls) and Tuesday (boys) evenings from 6pm – dark and Games/Practices will be eitherSaturday evenings at 5 pm or Sunday mornings before noon.  Away games will depend upon the scheduling constraints of our opponents.  We recognize that many kids play other sports and that attendance a certain games/practices may not be possible.  Missing a game or practice will never be held against any player.  Our goal is to have fun and get your men to learn to love this wonderful sport as much as we do.

Why fall?  Lacrosse is a spring sport.

The purpose of the fall season is to introduce the game to new players and sharpen the skills of returning players.  Though there will be a limited number of games (5-8), the practice and game atmosphere will be relaxed with an emphasis on fun.  The spring season will likely include 12-15 games and a more rigorous practice schedule.

Why do I need to join US Lacrosse?

Player insurance for Croton Youth Lacrosse is provided through membership in US Lacrosse.  Before your player attends his/her first practice, he/she will need a US Lacrosse membership number.  Returning players from last spring can use their existing membership (which lasts one year).  New players need to go to www.uslacrsosse.org and sign up for a $25 youth membership.  Once you’re signed up, you’ll receive a membership number that you’ll need to provide to Croton Youth Lacrosse.

Do I need Equipment?

Yes.

BOYS:  Your player will need a stick, helmet, armpads, gloves, mouthguard and cup.  These items can be purchased from a number of places, including the Sports Barn in Yorktown (www.sportsbarnyorktownny.com), Laur-Lee Sports in Ossining, Dick’s Sporting Goods or Modells.   If you’re unsure about your man’s interest (helmets, in particular, are expensive), we have a limited amount of loaner equipment you can borrow, but you’ll still need to get your own stick, mouthguard and cup.  If you’d like loaner equipment, please contact Brian McCarthy at bjmccarthy35@gmail.com.

GIRLS: Yes.  Your player will need a girl’s stick, lacrosse goggles and moutguard. These items can be purchased from a number of places, including the Sports Barn in Yorktown (www.sportsbarnyorktownny.com), Laur-Lee Sports in Ossining, Dick’s Sporting Goods or Modells.

How will I be notified about scheduling?

Croton Youth Lacrosse uses Teamsnap to communicate with parents about scheduling, game locations and cancellations.  After you’ve registered, you’ll receive an invitation from Teamsnap.  Once accepted, you’ll have access to everything you need.
