Dear Members of the Croton-Harmon School Community:

Carrie E. Tompkins Elementary School is among an elite group of schools nationwide that have been selected as 2014 National Blue Ribbon Schools, U.S. Department of Education Secretary Arne Duncan announced yesterday via a live web broadcast.

“The Board of Education and administration are very proud of CET’s teachers, administrators and students; as is our whole school community,” said Superintendent of Schools Dr. Edward Fuhrman. “This award signifies CET’s commitment to deliver a developmentally appropriate and rich educational experience to children that is also academically challenging. It is indeed possible to do both, as CET proves every day.”

Croton-Harmon School’s CET is one of just 337 schools in 47 U.S. states to earn the Blue Ribbon distinction for 2014 and the only elementary, middle or high school to be recognized in Westchester County.

“We could not be happier with the Blue Ribbon recognition,” said CET Principal Kelly Maloney. “We have consistently maintained our focus on educating the whole child. We are reflective practitioners and have made changes each year to refine our practices and programs.”

According to Duncan, “National Blue Ribbon Schools are models of consistent excellence and a resource for other schools and districts. We celebrate them for their tireless efforts and boundless creativity in reaching and teaching every student.”

In total, 239 elementary schools, 25 middle schools, 48 high schools and 25 K-12 schools were designated 2014 National Blue Ribbon Schools, according to Aba S. Kumi, director of the National Blue Ribbon Schools Program.

Said Maloney, “Like our mission statement says, ‘Together with our community, we empower each student to thrive academically, creatively and socially and to become responsible citizens.’”
