Croton’s BOE Opposes Field Tests – Asks For Public To Help

January 9, 2015

The following is a message from the Board of Education:

Dear Members of the Croton-Harmon School District Community:
Please Advocate With Us in Opposition to Mandatory Stand-Alone Field Testing.

As we wrote to you last December, we voted unanimously to adopt a resolution in opposition to mandatory stand-alone field testing (testing that tests questions for possible use in future tests) because it consumes time available to provide direct instruction to students, utilizes school district funds and resources for the benefit of a private, for-profit corporation, and ultimately offers no added value to the instruction of students.

The Board of Regents is accepting public comment on this issue until January 20, 2015, and is expected to vote on the matter at its meeting in February.

The Westchester-Putnam School Boards Association, of which the Croton-Harmon district is a member, has created a link to send a letter to our elected officials and the Board of Regents. You can voice your concern using the following link:

We have also organized a letter-writing campaign for Saturday, January 10 thfrom 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Black Cow Coffee Company, 4 Albany Post Road South.  We hope we will see you there.
