LOCAL MUSIC SCHOOL LAUNCHES EXCLUSIVE ONLINE SIGHT SINGING CLASS

February 12, 2015

The Cortlandt School of Performing Arts is one of Westchester’s fastest growing music schools! Conveniently located in northern Croton, on the border of Cortlandt Manor, the school has more than tripled in size since last year, with students from Westchester and Putnam Counties.  The popular assemblage of instructors includes professional musicians and certified NYS music teachers.  With its ever-expanding curriculum, the school is helping school aged singers prepare for NYSSMA sight-singing with a special online class.  In its 2 ½  years,  CSPA has become well known for its fine vocal and instrumental instruction, unique music curriculum for  pre-School, called “Li’l Peeps”,  “Kids Care Cabaret” community chorus for children,  and for the passionate music instruction for all instruments and voice for both kids and adults.  It is “home” to The Taconic Opera, as they rehearse there weekly. CSPA has produced concerts (including String Pulse 2014 at The Paramount Hudson Valley that featured 250+ young local musicians) as well as offered community concerts in local restaurants and street fairs, and concerts in their beautiful cabaret room at CSPA, featuring jazz greats, Broadway stars and even presentations by Illusionists and authors.  So what is this NEW PROGRAM FOR SINGERS?

The school expands their vision even more this spring, by introducing a one-of-a-kind program for singers.  It is an online sight-singing class, designed especially for singers that are preparing for NYSSMA adjudication.  NYS Certified Music teacher and business owner Carol Arrucci has developed this program after retiring from 30 years in the music classroom.  She has taught private voice and musically directed a Broadway teen chorus through the years and enjoys working with all ages. “With this program we train many vocalists from around the county to feel comfortable reading music.  This has never been offered before in our area- we are the first!  Students come to us from other music schools and also classroom vocal music teachers have recommended our sight-singing sessions in the past. Now we reach out further into southern Westchester and Putnam County with our online class,” explains CSPA owner, Carol Arrucci.  “Through the magic of the Internet, students can sign up for a group class of scheduled sessions, or a series of individual tutoring online.  In the group class, all classmates will be able to see and hear one another, and the group will view musical examples at the same time.  It’s exactly like our sessions that take place at the studio, except they are taking the class from the comfort of their own home, in front of their computer.  There are many ‘learn to sight sing’ internet offerings and YouTube videos, but none of them are interactive.  Someone needs to be there to correct the singer, answer questions, and guide them through the process.  Students come back to us during the year to get more practice, because we know that sight-singing is a skill that is developed over time – and we are here to teach it!”  Information and online registration can be found at www.CortArts.com.
