The following is a message from the Board of Education:

Reminder:  Budget Saturday, Feb. 28 th

All Croton-Harmon district residents are invited to the Budget Workshop this weekend, to be held in the Community Room of Croton-Harmon High School, 36 Old Post Road South, from 8:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

This session provides an in-depth and comprehensive look at how the district budgets for its 2015-2016 educational programs from a Kindergarten through High-School perspective. A detailed agenda will be distributed and posted to www.chufsd.org , once it has been finalized.

New York State Drops Stand-Alone Field Testing Proposal

Thank you to all who wrote in opposition to the proposed change

The Croton-Harmon Board of Education would like to thank all those who contacted their state legislators with regard to the New York State Board of Regents proposal to mandate extra days of field testing.

Due to public pressure from our community and communities like ours across the state, the proposal has been dropped.

The Board had unanimously adopted a resolution in opposition to mandatory stand-alone field testing, as it would have placed an additional burden on our students and district resources.

Research has shown that field tests administered independently of regular tests are inherently inaccurate. Therefore, this Board believes the best way to test new exam sections, or questions, is by embedding them into tests that are already being administered.

It is because of the voice of the public that the Board of Regents received this message and will not be subjecting our students to additional field testing.

As always, you may contact us with questions or concerns at boe@chufd.org.

Sincerely,

The Croton-Harmon Board of Education:

Giuseppina Miller, President; Neal Haber, Vice President; Iris Bugliosi, Patrice Davidson, Joshua Diamond, Todd Freebern and Andrea Furey
