More Arts Activities in November

Visual Arts

There will be an opening on Saturday, November 4, 3-5 pm, of the show, “ROOTS from Berlin to Beacon” at the Howland Cultural Center, 477 Main Street in Beacon. All artists will be present.

The “Roots” exhibition by these four artists was first shown in March 2017 in several galleries in Berlin, Germany.  The title then, “Racines – Roots – Wurzeln”, in French, English and German, signifies the existentialist struggles of the three German-born artists who migrated: Helga Schuhr to Neuchatel, Switzerland, CCoA member Ilse Schreiber-Noll to Croton-on-Hudson, New York, and Silke Konschak, born in East Germany, who now lives in Berlin.  Bibiana Huang Matheis, born in China, now living in Pawling, New York, exhibited her work with a related theme in another Berlin gallery.

Now the four artists in search of their roots join forces and have brought their work to the Howland Cultural Center.  (Directions)  The show runs from Nov 3 – Dec 3 (hours 1-3 pm each Fri, Sat, Sun, Mon).

The Cortlandt Chamber Orchestra will present a FREE concert on Veterans Day, Saturday, November 11 at 7:30pm. The program of music will be a musical tribute to our veterans, concluding with the Symphony No.100 (“Military”) by Franz Joseph Haydn.

The performance will take place at the Holy Name of Mary Catholic Church, located at 110 Grand Street, in the Village of Croton-on-Hudson.  Admission is free, but donations are welcome.  For more information, contact the Cortlandt Regional Music Association: (845) 838-1077, or
